What does "tree shaping" actually mean?
Tree shaping (or formative pruning) is the practice of guiding a tree's growth to a particular form — pleached, espaliered, lollipop, umbrella or simply a refined natural shape.
How much does ornamental tree shaping cost?
Ornamental shaping starts from £250 per tree and rises with size and complexity. Pleached avenues and feature specimens at high-end gardens can cost £1,200+ per visit.
How often does shaped work need maintaining?
Formal shapes (pleached, lollipop, umbrella) need annual or twice-annual visits to keep their crisp lines. Less formal shaping every 2–3 years is enough for most ornamental specimens.
Can you take on bespoke design work?
Yes — we work with garden designers, landscape architects and private estate managers across the West Midlands.
Will it harm my tree?
No, when done correctly. Shaping is gentler on a tree than crown reduction because it removes smaller-diameter wood at the right time of year.
Do you work on listed properties?
Yes. Our CHAS Elite accreditation and our experience on Solihull and Sutton Coldfield estates make us a comfortable fit for listed and conservation-area work.
